Patient Instructions:

Patient should fast for 9-12 hours prior to collection of the specimen. Fasting is defined as no consumption of food or beverage other than water for at least 9-12 hours before testing. Patient should be on a normal diet and maintain a stable weight for a week prior to testing. Any drugs should be discontinued for 3-4 weeks if possible. If applicable, consult physician before discontinuing any medications. Test should not be done until 3 months after a myocardial infarction or similar traumatic episodes such as severe infection or inflammation.
