How does the Halo® laser work?

Halo® laser is unique because two laser treatments are delivered simultaneously. It is the first laser in the world to offer this technology.

The two lasers in Halo® laser are:

  • A non-ablative laser that heats columns of collagen deep in the skin, causing tightening and improving skin texture. The wavelength of this laser is 1470nm.
  • An ablative laser removes the top layer of skin to an exact depth. This exfoliates dead skin cells to allow fresh, young skin cells to renew the skin. The wavelength of this laser is 2940nm.

Halo® laser is a form of fractional laser. This means that a fraction of the skin is treated per treatment. The laser beam is split into tiny microscopic columns. The first laser fires, and then the second laser fires straight on top. Having a Halo® laser is like having two different laser treatments simultaneously. A one-two punch!

How to prepare for your Halo laser treatment:

  • Wear SPF: Minimize sun exposure for at least 2-4 weeks prior to your treatment. Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher daily, as sunburned or tanned skin cannot be treated.

  • Discontinue Certain Skincare Products: Stop using skincare products containing retinoids (like Retin-A), alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs), beta hydroxy acids (BHAs), or benzoyl peroxide at least one week before your treatment. These ingredients can increase skin sensitivity.

  • No Waxing or Depilatory Creams: Avoid waxing, depilatory creams, or any other hair removal method that can irritate the skin in the treatment area for at least a week before your appointment.

  • Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water in the days leading up to your treatment, as well-hydrated skin can handle the treatment better and recover more quickly.

  • No Cosmetic Procedures: Avoid other cosmetic procedures like Botox, fillers, or chemical peels for at least 2 weeks prior to your Halo Laser treatment.

  • Skin Care: Immediately after treatment, your skin will feel warm and appear red, similar to a sunburn. Apply any post-treatment skincare products recommended by your provider.

  • Avoid Sun Exposure: Protect your skin from the sun. Stay indoors as much as possible for the first 24-48 hours, and use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher when going outside. Sun exposure can significantly impact the healing process and the effectiveness of the treatment.

  • Hydrate: Keep your skin hydrated by applying a fragrance-free moisturizer. Drink plenty of water to help your skin heal.

  • Avoid Strenuous Activities: Refrain from heavy exercise, saunas, or hot tubs for a few days post-treatment as sweating and heat can irritate the treated skin.

  • Avoid Makeup: Avoid applying makeup for at least 24-48 hours post-treatment to prevent irritation and allow the skin to breathe and heal.

  • No Exfoliating or Scrubbing: Do not use exfoliating agents, abrasive scrubs, or harsh chemicals on the treated area until your skin has fully healed.

  • Peeling and Flaking: Your skin may start to peel or flake after a few days. This is normal. Do not pick or peel off loose skin; allow it to come off naturally.

  • Customizable treatments to precisely target skin damage and the visible signs of aging
  • Improvement in the appearance of wrinkles, sun damage, and enlarged pores
  • Personalized treatment plans to meet your lifestyle needs

Frequently Asked Questions

What results can I expect?

HALO is a complete skin revitalization laser treatment. You will see overall improvements in your skin including a reduction in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, reduced pore size, improved skin reflectivity and glow, and significant removal of discoloration.

How many treatments do you need?

What’s great about HALO is that you can choose how many treatments you want! Discuss your needs with your clinician and you can choose to have one or two more aggressive treatments or have multiple treatments that are less aggressive and achieve a similar goal over a longer period of time.

What happens during the treatment?

Thirty minutes to an hour before the treatment your clinician may place a topical anesthetic on your skin to reduce the sensation during the procedure. The area will be measured with motion tracking technology to ensure the area is treated evenly. Your clinician will treat each measured area by uniformly rolling the HALO handpiece over your skin until the system recognizes the treatment is complete.

What does HALO feel like?

With a topical anesthetic and integrated cooling technology, patients typically experience very little discomfort. Most patients describe the treatment as a feeling of heat with occasional prickling sensations, but are generally comfortable. After the treatment, most patients will continue to feel warm for an additional 15 to 30 minutes, or a bit longer with deeper treatment levels.

How soon after my treatment can I return to normal activities?

For the first 24 hours you should keep your skin protected according to your clinician’s instructions, but after that you should be able to go about your normal activities. After the first 24 hours your skin will begin to peel, but you will be able to put on makeup. For a facial treatment, you will see very little change on the first day. After two to three days you will develop a light bronzing appearance. By day three or four your skin will peel, revealing your new skin beneath.

 When will I see results?

You will see initial results between two and five days after your HALO treatment, but your skin will continue to improve over time. Most patients see the greatest pigmentary improvement in the first two to three weeks. This is followed by a dermal regeneration phase that continues to improve for months.

How long will my results last?

HALO results will last for years to come, but you should continue to keep your skin protected at all times using UV sunscreen to protect your new, healthy skin. Each additional HALO treatment you get will only improve the results, giving you even better looking skin.

How much does a HALO treatment cost?

Each HALO treatment is customized for your skin, and your lifestyle. Depending on your needs, your provider may recommend a single treatment, or a series of treatments. In order to find out which is the best option for you, please visit a provider near you for a consultation.
