Celebrities have been using injectables as their secret weapon for years. Up until recently, weight loss secrets have been just that – secret! Now we know that many of the rich and famous use peptides and other types of treatments to lose weight and stay trim! Some of these peptides are also known to improve heart, kidney, and liver health, and can lower cholesterol and possibly reduce the risk of cancer, diabetes, and heart disease. TBTW patients have the option to get their injections in the office or take home syringes and inject themselves in the comfort of their own home.

Semaglutide (Ozempic) / GLP-1 Agonist

Semaglutide is the peptide weight loss that is taking the diet industry by storm!  This medication when combined with lifestyle modifications, can help you lose weight and keep it off. This is a Type 2 diabetic drug that was approved In June 2021 for weight management. Semaglutide, the primary component of the popular drug, Ozempic, is injected once a week while following a modified diet.  We have seen astonishing results with an average weight loss of 25 lbs.

Potential Benefits of Semaglutide:

  • Decreases body fat percentage
  • Decreases cardiovascular outcomes in subjects with type II diabetes and cardiovascular disease
  • Repairs metabolic resistance
  • Lowers HbA1c
  • Reduces food intake by decreasing your appetite
  • Slows food digestion in the stomach helping with portion control
  • Promotes Weight Loss

Tirzepatide (Mounjaro) / GIP/GLP-1 Receptor Agonist

Tirzepatide is the first dual GIP/GLP-1 receptor agonist which means it works on the glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) receptors and the glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptors. According to a press release published by Eli Lilly, “GIP is a hormone that may complement the effects of GLP-1 receptor agonists. In preclinical models, GIP has been shown to decrease food intake and increase energy expenditure therefore resulting in weight reductions, and when combined with GLP-1 receptor agonist, may result in greater effects on markers of metabolic dysregulation such as body weight, glucose and lipids.”

Currently, it is indicated for use in patients with Type 2 diabetes, but it shows promise as a weight-loss medication as well. Clinical trials found doses of tirzepatide effective in reducing hemaglobin A1C levels and assisting with weight loss. Early data suggests that it may even reduce the likelihood of cardiovascular events such as heart attack or stroke. Tirzepatide is injected once a week while following a modified diet. Tirzepatide reduced the A1C by 2% to 2.3% compared to a 1.9% reduction for participants in the semaglutide. Tirzepatide led to weight loss of 7.7 kg (17 lb) to 11.4 kg (25 lb), on average.

Potential Benefits of Tirzepatide:

  • Decreases body fat percentage
  • Decreases cardiovascular outcomes in subjects with type II diabetes and cardiovascular disease
  • Repairs metabolic resistance
  • Lowers HbA1c
  • Reduces food intake by decreasing your appetite
  • Slows food digestion in the stomach helping with portion control
